AT&T and Apple’s EDGE-y Customers
The debacle that is the Apple iPhone/AT&T EDGE network marriage just continues to get worse. At this point,
everyone is aware of the EDGE network problems and the fact that iPhone customers are not happy with the data service. Everyone is also aware that iPhone hackers have been flooding the Internet with iPhone software and hardware hacks that allow users to use the iPhone on unauthorized (read “better”) networks. Well, on Friday, Apple rendered all those hacks moot with an iPhone firmware update that turned any unlocked iPhones into iBricks. I wonder if those unhappy customers are any happier this week . . .
Chock this up as just another example of how planning marketing and the network in isolation can hurt customer satisfaction, revenue and ultimately, the brand.
